Reviews
Connectivity of the Nokia N96 is absolutely top notch. As well as support for HSDPA, the phone has onboard Wi-Fi and Bluetooth complete with A2DP support, so you can stream stereo audio to a pair of wireless headphones. It’s a great phone that’s bursting at the seams with top-notch features, but it’s not a huge update on the original.

On the whole we are impressed with the N96. It offers noteworthy upgrades to its forerunner, such as the DVB-H tuner (not usable in the States) and 16GB of internal memory with further expansion, and the design is also greatly refined. Running S60 Feature Pack 3 gives the N96 the flexibility to handle most anything the user throws at it.

N96 is obviously an all-in-one solution, but doesn’t stand up to the level of N95 or N85. Nokia N96 concentrates on a narrow circle of typical tasks: video playback and recording, mobile TV and music. On the other hand, it’s hard to look up a better solution for performing the tasks that N96 has a focus on.

In all respects the N96 is an improvement on the already good N95 8GB, handling all its functions well. However, Nokia’s new flagship lacks the glitz and glamour of rival smartphones and doesn’t excel in enough areas to justify the high price tag.

The Nokia N96′s new design is slicker than its more rigid stablemates with a new added dimension to its dual slider action. Nokia has also embedded a BBC iPlayer application so you can stream the latest TV programs over Wi-Fi. Picture quality was definitely watchable over the sizeable vibrant 2.8-inch display.
