The Canon PowerShot G10 is aimed at advanced amateur photographers (prosumers) who want something a little more compact, but to offer the very highest of standards. The third generation PowerShot G10 improves on the hugly popular G9, and receiving an “undoubtedly the best ever” remark.

Reviews
The Canon PowerShot G10 is undoubtedly the best ever Canon G-Series camera, and is a serious alternative to both an entry-level DSLR and other similar compacts. It ultimately just fails to gain our whole-hearted recommendation, however, principally because of the noisy images at slow ISO speeds, and the rather prohibitive current price-tag of £449.

The Canon PowerShot G10 is a solid enthusiast digital camera for those who want something compact to complement a dSLR. Current uers of the G9 or previous models who want the higher resolution and who won’t miss the extra lens reach won’t be disappointed. Even if the Canon PowerShot G10 eventually turns out to not be best-in-class for whatever reason, it’s still a great camera.

It’s a worthy successor to what is arguably the most popular DSLR back up camera. The new technology is an added bonus with the DiG!C IV processor speeding things up while the face detection self timer will help those of you specializing in self portraits. It’s unfortunate they’ve not really improved on noise performance and I think this could be the only thing that limits the G10.

It is easy to see that Canon has done something amazing with all those pixels it crammed into that small sensor of the G10. In a well lit, well exposed photo taken at low ISO, the image quality is so good that I was caught off guard. Canon has now demonstrated that a small camera with a small sensor can provide the ergonomics, speed, flexibility, and image quality that would please most serious photographers.
